Standard 2: Skill and Fitness Based Competence 

Physical education teacher candidates are physically educated individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to demonstrate competent movement performance and health enhancing fitness as delineated in the NASPE K-12 Standards.

To be considered an effective teacher you must become a positive influence on your students and model expected attitudes and behaviors towards them. Teachers in general but physical educators specifically need to make sure they are at an appropriate fitness level and ensure their motor skills are proficiently maintained to serve students as best as possible. Students obtain knowledge best when thorough verbal directions are expressed followed by a visual demostration explaining as you perform. By students observing their instructor accomplish a task it  not only gives them a better perception of how, but they become more motivated to participate and give a strong effort  as well. Teachers should also completely understand the different movements and skills they are teaching. This is important in being able to break the skill down to the basics and provide constructive feedback and refinements to each movement. Through various sports and games participated in I feel I have a broad knowledge and skills set to assist students in understand how to safely and properly perform certain skills and understanding their importance.
