Standard 6: Professionalism

Physical education teacher candidates demonstrate dispositions essential to becoming effective professionals.

Professionalism is often evident in how an individual presents themself. Modeling respect and sensitivity is ideal when communicating with others.  The best atmosphere for a classroom is one that has mutual respect between students and their teacher. Treating them equally and accepting individuality, will establish a sense of trust in the classroom making students feel as if they belong. Not all students have that strong supporting cast outside of school, so it's important  to keep a positive school and classroom enviroment comforting students. Ensuring they are putting forth a strong effort to reach their fullest potential is one of the main responsibilities of an educator. Participating in oppurtunities that lead to professional growth such as: attending conferences/seminars or spending extra time with organizations outside of school hours both can help teachers learn and grow. A professional will conduct themself in a way that demonstrates valuing of the students acting as a strong support for each. From experiences through observations, student teaching, and substituting, I've come to learn students respond well to teachers who show interest in the curriculum and genuinely care about their progress. Throughout my career as an educator I plan to inspire and encourage individuals to become lifelong learners. The future is in their hands and it's up to us to equip them with the proper knowledge and skills necessary to grow as individuals.
